Samburu National Reserve
Northern Kenya's premier safari destination with unique wildlife species (Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Somali ostrich), authentic Samburu culture, and dramatic semi-arid landscapes. Perfect for experienced travelers seeking something beyond mainstream safaris.
June-October & January-February
Samburu National Reserve is one of Kenya's most spectacular and unique safari destinations, lying in the rugged semi-arid landscape of northern Kenya. Named after the Samburu pastoralist people who inhabit the region, this 165 km² reserve is home to species found nowhere else in Kenya—the famous "Samburu Special Five"—including Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Somali ostrich, and beisa oryx. The reserve follows the perennial Ewaso Nyiro River, which sustains an incredible concentration of wildlife in an otherwise harsh environment. Unlike crowded southern parks, Samburu offers authentic, less-touristy safari experiences with strong cultural immersion, dramatic desert landscapes, and excellent opportunities to see rare species.
